There is still time to go

A wooded estate, a terroir table and a road that climbs through the Akan kingdoms, two hours fifty from Abidjan. Everything this site states has been checked; what has not been is said plainly.

La Table du Verger

We eat what grows here,
cooked over wood

Foutou, kabato, sauce graine, sauce feuille, smoked fish, wood-fire grills, vegetarian dishes. And drinks made on the estate: ginger, hibiscus, baobab, tamarind.

A ball of pounded foutou, matte pale beige, beside a dark green leaf sauce in an enamel bowl.
Pounded foutou — a beige paste, never white
A whole smoked fish on a banana leaf, its skin coppery and glossy.
The longer the smoking, the deeper the copper
Four glasses on a wooden bench: golden ginger, ruby hibiscus, milky baobab, brown tamarind.

A bed of glowing embers under a fine white ash.
The right ember: red under the ash
An open-air wood-fire grill with skewers and fish on the grate, smoke, split wood alongside.

The full menu and the prices are not published: the estate has not set them yet. We give them in conversation.

Experiences

Sorted by the hour
it is outside

At this latitude the day does not stretch: the sun sets between 5.30 and 6.30 pm, and dusk lasts only twenty to thirty minutes. So the experiences are sorted the way they are lived — by moment, not by category.

  • 7 — 10 amLong morning shadows. Guided walk, biodiversity trail in the grove, cocoa pods.
  • 10 am — 1 pmThe sun climbs. Cooking workshops, meetings with craftspeople, traditional games, supervised school trips.
  • 1 — 3 pmFull sun, we move into the shade. La Table du Verger, picnic in the rest areas.
  • 3 — 5.30 pmShadows set off the other way. Team building and seminars, half day or full day, family days, birthdays.
  • 5.30 — 6.30 pmThe tip-over. Traditional dances, African storytelling. The moment the estate keeps for private events — weddings, receptions.

The estate

One tree carries
two ages at once

A green pod and a ripe pod grow on the same trunk at the same moment: a cocoa tree takes five to seven months to turn its fruit from green to yellow, and it does not turn them together. This is not a metaphor — it is what you see when you look up in the grove.

It is also what this site is about: the same thing is not the same colour depending on the light that touches it. Blue in the shade, ochre in the sun.

Enter the estate

On a single cocoa trunk, one still-green pod and one ripe yellow-orange pod.

West to east,
with the sun

You start at the river and climb towards the border, in the direction the light crosses the country. Each stage steps a little further than the last; the fifth leaves the frame, because Bondoukou is far.

01 Stage 01 — The Comoé river

The Comoé river

You enter by water. The Bettié bridge — 189 metres, opened in December 2017 — crosses the Comoé: a line of concrete laid across a country of earth and timber.

02 Stage 02 — Abengourou

Abengourou

Capital of the Indénié kingdom: the Royal Palace, the Royal Museum, the cathedral, the markets, the craft workshops — and Espace Le Verger, at Adoukoffikro.

03 Stage 03 — Niablé — Osséikro

Niablé — Osséikro

Thirty kilometres from Ghana. The road is tarred in stretches and laterite in stretches: you change surface the way you change country.

04 Stage 04 — The Djuablin kingdom

The Djuablin kingdom

Royal villages, living traditions. You arrive as the shadows lengthen, and you leave before the night tips over.

05 Stage 05 — Bondoukou

Bondoukou

Bron country. The walls are raised in banco — steeped clay, straw, rice husks — and run through with wooden beams that come out on both sides.

Three packages

How long
you stay

1 day

Découverte

Abengourou and Le Verger. The shape of a day out from Abidjan: leave early, eat on site, head back before the 6 pm tip-over.

2 days · 1 night

Royale

The estate, the table and the nearest stages. A full day, a night on site, a second morning in the grove.

4 days · 3 nights

Grand Est

The whole route, from the Comoé river to Bondoukou. You follow the sun west to east, stage by stage, into Bron country. The five stages, in order: the Bettié bridge over the Comoé, the capital of the Indénié kingdom, the Ghanaian border at Niablé, the royal villages of the Djuablin, then the banco walls of Bondoukou. Three nights on the road, with the estate as start and finish.

Accommodation for the two- and four-day packages, prices, departure days: not settled at this date.

Fresh kola nuts split open in a wooden bowl on a mat: the flesh runs from pale yellow to red.

The welcome

Kola is offered
to whoever arrives

The kola nut is offered when a guest arrives — to open a visit, seal an agreement, mend a quarrel. Its flesh runs from yellow to pink to red, and the white variety gives the darkest juice of all.

It is the one gesture this site gives you back-to-front: everywhere else the light comes from the sky over Abengourou; here it comes from you.

What we know, and what we do not know yet

The estate is opening;
this site guesses nothing

How long from Abidjan?

About 205 kilometres and 2 h 50 by road to Abengourou. The road is tarred in stretches and laterite in stretches: you do not travel at the same speed throughout. A day trip means an early start.

What does it cost?

Prices are not published, because the estate has not set them yet. No price appears on this site until it has — the rate is confirmed on booking, in the WhatsApp conversation.

What are the opening hours?

Not communicated at this date. What is certain is the light: the sun sets between 5.30 and 6.30 pm and night falls in twenty to thirty minutes. Plan to leave before that.

How do you pay?

Wave, Orange Money and MTN MoMo are the methods under consideration. No payment is taken on this site: the funnel above is a demonstration and nothing is charged. Settlement is with the team.

Which languages are spoken?

French and English. The Ghanaian border is thirty kilometres from stage 3: English is not a comfort option here, it is the neighbourhood.

Groups, schools, companies?

Yes — school trips, half-day or full-day team building, seminars, private events. Exact capacities and supervision are not yet quantified: ask, and you will get a precise answer rather than a guess.

Which season to avoid?

From December to February the harmattan loads the air with dust and cuts visibility. It is not a forbidden season, it is one to know about before you come to photograph the landscape.

Are there visitor reviews?

Not yet, and we do not invent them. The estate is opening: the first reviews will come from the first visitors. Until then this site shows no rating, no testimonial and no partner logo.
